Hi, is there a way to emulate the function keys F1-F12 in remote desktop? I'm running a program on my remote computer (win xp) that uses F9 as a shortcut, however when I press F9 expose still activates. Are there any keypresses that i can assign to emulate the F9 key? Mar 19, 2020 To use the standard function keys, hold the Fn (Function) key when pressing a function key. For example, pressing both Fn and F12 (speaker icon) performs the action assigned to the F12 key instead of raising the volume of your speakers. If your keyboard doesn’t have an Fn key, try pressing and holding the Control key when pressing a function key. The F5/F6 defaults to the backlight adjustment function. After long press FN+K+C for 3s, the keyboard will flash 3 times, then the function of F5/F6 will switch to the normal F5/F6 function under Mac system, and the keyboard backlight control will adjust to FN+F5/F6. On my PC, I think I hit F4 or F5 and the Microsoft Powerpoint presentation switches from Normal viewing mode to Presentation mode. On my macbook pro (core 2 duo), I have my volume button on F5 and Fn+F5 doesn't seem to do it. Sketch 54 100. Side note: Fn+F6 is very useful.
The Touch Bar of your MacBook Pro changes to show the function keys for you to select, and then it returns to its previous state when you release the Function key.
For some apps, you can make the function keys display permanently in Touch Bar: Bartender 3 0 28 – organize your menu bar apps.
- In System Preferences, choose Keyboard.
- Click Shortcuts.
- From the left sidebar, select Function Keys.
- Click the “+” symbol, then navigate to the app and select it.

Now when you open or switch to this app, Touch Bar always displays the function keys.
